Secara umum proses survey terhadap kontainer harus memperhatikan hal-hal sebagai berikut : 1. Kebersihan dari kontainer dari dalam maupun luar 2. Kondisi cat dan warna dari kontainer 3. Mengetahui struktur dan bagian-bagian kontainer secara umum 4. Pengecekan terhadap seluruh kondisi kontainer baik dari dalam maupun luar kontainer 5. Pengecekan terhadap fungsi-fungsi dari bagian kontainer. Misalnya seperti ventilator, door locking assembly, dsb. Dalam kondisi ini, seorang surveyor wajib memahami 4 jenis pekerjaannya, antara lain : 1. On-Hire Survey Container (Kontainer yang mau disewa) 2. Off-Hire Survey Container (Kontainer Kosong) 3. Survey Kontainer Rusak 4. Survey Kontainer Baru
